Australian institute of marine science
Dr. Tiffany Sih is an early career researcher who specialises in fish assemblages along deeper frontiers. During her PhD, she investigated mesophotic and ‘rariphotic’ fishes of the Great Barrier Reef. In these rarely sampled habitats, her work unlocked new approaches to greatly expand what is known about the depth-ranges and spatial distributions of fish in deeper marine environments, including identifying a number of potential new fish species! She is continuing this work using underwater imagery and biological specimens collected from deep water tropical seamounts and remote atolls. She is currently a fish ecologist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science where she investigates how fishes can support coral growth and resilience with the Reef Song project.
