Juergen Geist is Chair Professor of Aquatic Systems Biology at Technical University of Munich, Germany. He conducted post-doctoral studies at University of California Davis, USA, after completing Master studies in Agricultural Biology and a doctorate in Genetics and Ecology.
His research focuses on the impact of multiple stressors on freshwater ecosystems by combining molecular and macro-ecological approaches. He uses this knowledge to develop evidence-based conservation and restoration strategies. Recent projects have addressed the impacts of climate and land use change on aquatic ecosystems, the assessment of ecological effects of innovative hydropower technologies, as well as the evaluation of various conservation and restoration projects.
In addition to research and teaching, Juergen Geist is engaged in various committees and advisory boards such as the “Biodiversity council” and the “Nature Conservation Council”. He has received several awards including the “Excellence in academic teaching award” and the “State Medal for exceptional achievements for the environment”.
