NSW DPI Fisheries
Dr Hayden Schilling is a Senior Fisheries Scientist at NSW DPI Fisheries. He received his PhD from the University of NSW on the ecology of tailor in eastern Australia. Hayden’s research is extremely broad ranging from oceanographic influences on whale entanglements to freshwater fish ecology.
His research generally focuses around using modelling techniques to understand variations in population dynamics. Following his PhD, Hayden completed postdocs at UNSW and the Sydney Institute of Marine Science in Fisheries Oceanography. He then moved to NSW DPI Fisheries where he joined the Freshwater Ecosystem group looking at long term monitoring of fish in the Murray-Darling Basin.
Hayden has recently transferred to the Stock Assessment group where he works on estuarine and freshwater stock assessment. Hayden is also a current NSW representative on the Australian Society of Fish Biology (ASFB) executive council and the 2023 recipient of the ASFB Early Career Excellence Award.
